The ENERGYSTAR Program was started in 1992 by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy, in the aim to reduce the energy consumption as well as Carbon Dioxide which is associated with power generation through cooperation with manufacturers, retailers, public utilities and private businesses. It is a voluntary program in nature and is currently an international labeling program. The ROCEPA introduced the “ENERGYSTAR Office Equipment Program” in 1999 by signing a memorandum with the USEPA. The mechanism involving application, certification and licensing was completed in the year 2000 and was implemented by the Environment and Development Foundation.
